Dear Abby Today: My Wife Borrowed $14,000 and Opened a Secret Mailbox
Dear Abby, My wife of 12 years borrowed $14,000 and opened a secret mailbox in another town to hide it from me. I love her so much and we have 3 kids together; she says that she loves me too and knows it’s her fault and she wants to work this out with me, but she won’t tell me who she borrowed the money from or why she kept it from me all this time. Should I take her back? Your devoted reader, Harold from Stony Brook, NY
I married my high school sweetheart in 1967. In 1979, after 12 years of marriage, we refinanced our mortgage so we could add a room. During the credit check, it was brought to my attention that my wife had borrowed $14,000 and opened a secret mailbox in a different town to hide it from me.
I confronted her about this today and she denied it. She says that she is not the one who applied for the loan or opened the mailbox. I am angry at her for lying to me about this for so many years. I confronted her about this when she got home from work that night.
